Future Voices King County trains young people to become thoughtful and effective cultural ambassadors who can represent cultural experiences responsibly, build understanding across differences, and strengthen a sense of belonging in their schools and communities.

We partner with Community Organizations and Schools to make this as accessible and convenient for the students.

To prepare students for that role, the program develops skills in storytelling, public speaking, interviewing, research, and digital media.

Students begin by exploring identity, culture, and belonging, including the traditions, values, languages, family histories, migration stories, community experiences, and questions of belonging that shape how people understand themselves and one another.

They then learn how to conduct and record an intergenerational interview with a family or community member, evaluate and contextualize what they learn, and turn that material into a clear written report or reflection.

Students also learn basic audio or video editing and strengthen their public-speaking skills so they can share what they discovered with others.

By the end of the program, each student will have completed a recorded interview, a written or reflective account of what they learned, and a polished public presentation or exhibit that communicates an important insight about identity, culture, or belonging.

Students also put their cultural ambassadorship skills into action through public-facing projects such as cultural clubs, workshops, exhibits, presentations, or community learning sessions designed to share knowledge and build understanding across cultures.
